Today Ian followed on from pastel work last week to demonstrate wet pastel work
Today's meeting, members tried a different approach to painting than we had ever tried before. First of all we did a watercolour painting to lay down the basic background. When this was dry we applied soft pastels. The watercolour was done wet into wet and very loose and can produce unexpected results. We waited until this was completely dry before applying the pastel. Janet provided us with excellent guidance for the exercise.
Gallery from left to right.......Tony, Anna, Ian's finished picture, Jimmy and Mike enjoyed Ian's pastel workshop this week. We used a limited palette of colours to blend and create a picture of mist rising from a lake to reach trees with snow laden branches.
Here are some of our paintings of seascapes on the top row by Tony, Jan, Mike and Anna in acrylic
Ian demonstrated a seascape in pastels above left and Janet demonstrated a seascape in acrylics.

We all enjoyed Anthony Barrow's workshop today
Steve came to show us his techniques for painting landscapes.
We enjoyed our portraits of Mike's shiatsu dog called Winston who is a regular visitor to our group.
Janet demonstrating composition and using light for still life
We had an enjoyable afternoon with Debra Butterworth as she demonstrated how to paint flowers with water based oils.
Sadly our previous chair of the club, Terry Fairbrother passed away in January after a period of illness. Terry was founder member of the club, which has benefitted enormously from his input over the years. The club made a donation to cancer research and his wife has written to thank the members for the donation and their support. We send kind thoughts and good wishes to his wife and family.
An important reminder to everyone. No art class next week Thursday 14th Jan. Come as usual 21st Jan.
Happy New Year to all.
Julie Foley, a visiting tutor is coming to our first session on the 7th Jan 2016. Julie principally paints with water colours. She has asked that we bring two paintings that we are not happy with to the session.
